TDC hosts Staff ‘Soft Chair’ Breast Cancer Awareness Event

Basseterre, St. Kitts – As the Federation continues to observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the TDC Group hosted a ‘Soft Chair Conversation’, on Thursday 26th October 2023, as part of its efforts to support the National campaign to educate further educate staff about the disease.

The informal, educational, and insightful activity was facilitated by Mrs. Valarie McIntosh, a Breast Cancer Survivor, and Ms. Mulik Walters, a Mental Health Specialist, who spoke candidly to employees from across the Group, about their experiences and how it affects both women and men.

In her presentation, Mrs. McIntosh shared her remarkable journey, while emphasizing the importance of early breast screening, the physical, and psychological effects she encountered and her strength to overcome during the life changing ordeal.

Ms. Walters spoke passionately about the emotional aspects of the breast cancer journey and how having a strong support system, a spiritual connection and an optimistic outlook can help affected live life to its fullest.

The staff praised the activity and welcomed the opportunity to participate in similar sessions in the future to discuss general and specific health and wellness topics, its impact, and how to better respond to the changes it brings to the workplace.

The event was organized by the Mrs. Andrea James-Wattley, the Employee Relations Officer and was held at the TDC Home and Building Depot, which is also currently celebrating ‘Pinktober’, its annual Breast Cancer Sales and Outreach Programme.
